COSTUME
As part of my studies at CMS Pinewood, I've been taught by industry professionals Sue Casey & Rebecca Lesley on everything from; script breakdown, budgeting, standby, design, continuity and sewing, to breakdown techniques and dyeing. It was an incredible learning experience - I brushed up on existing skills, while simultaneously learning new ones. Studying costume has opened up a world of pathways for me to explore, and helped me appreciate in great depth the thought, talent and creativity it takes to create & develop a character.**Brushing up on existing skills…
The lovely Sue Casey shared her knowledge of basic machine & hand stitching, including French hem, flat felled, button stitching and hems. Enabling me to develop my pre existing sewing skills. **FOR A MORE IN DEPTH LOOK AT MY PORTFOLIO, INC. COSTUME BREAKDOWN
Rebecca Lesley taught me dyeing, colour matching & theory, teaching, dry brushing, blood samples and health & safety. My favourite part to breakdown was designing and creating my final costume piece!
Colour Matching
In groups, we had a selection of dye-na-flows to use to colour match a shade of our choice. Ours was French Turquoise. We started with mixing Navy & Jungle in various amounts to try and balance the greens-blue hue. Then during, comparing, utilising other yellow & green tones, repeating. It was on our third attempt that we got the closest!
Teching - using green & brown dyenaflow’s
Blood Samples
Experimenting here with different mediums including: acrylic paint, Fleet Street, glass paint, textile paint, binder/gloss binder, dyes, latex & perm blood. Also using other products and acrylic mediums to create texture or maintain a shiny-wet look. A mixture of dry brushing, wet brushing and sprays were used to create these looks
